Description

Delightful and airy meringue cookies that are perfect for any occasion.


Ingredients

  • 4 large egg whites
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Red and green gel food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 200°F (90°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper. Ensure your mixing bowl and whisk are grease-free.
  2. In a stand mixer or with a hand mixer, beat the egg whites on medium speed until foamy. Add cream of tartar.
  3. Slowly add the granulated sugar, 1 tablespoon at a time, increasing speed to high until stiff glossy peaks form and the sugar dissolves.
  4. Beat in vanilla extract. Divide meringue into separate bowls if coloring. Gently fold in gel food coloring.
  5. Fill piping bags fitted with star tips and pipe small swirls onto prepared sheets.
  6. Bake for 1 hour. Then turn off oven and let meringues cool inside for 1 more hour.
