- 1 cup warm milk
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix warm milk with sugar. Sprinkle yeast on top and let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- Add butter, egg, and salt. Stir in flour one cup at a time until a soft dough forms.
- Knead dough for 5–6 minutes in a mixer with dough hook or 8–10 minutes by hand on a floured surface.
- Transfer to a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 to 1 hours, or until doubled.
- Punch down the dough, shape into a loaf, and place in a greased 9×5-inch loaf pan.
- Cover loosely and let rise again for 30–45 minutes until just above the pan’s edge.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 30–35 minutes until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped.
- Cool for 10 minutes in the pan, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
