Description

Delicious orange zest rolls that are soft and sweet, perfect for breakfast or dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk (110°F)
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons orange zest
  • ½ cup granulated sugar (for filling)
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened (for filling)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 3 tablespoons fresh orange juice

Instructions

  1. Warm milk to 110°F and stir in yeast with a pinch of sugar. Let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Mix in eggs, melted butter, sugar, and salt. Gradually add flour to form a soft dough.
  3. Knead dough by hand or mixer for 8 minutes until elastic. Place in a greased bowl and let rise until doubled, 1 to 1 hours.
  4. Combine softened butter, sugar, and orange zest to make filling.
  5. Roll out dough into a 12×18 inch rectangle. Spread filling evenly, then roll into a log and cut into 12 rolls.
  6. Arrange rolls in a greased baking dish. Cover and let rise again 30–45 minutes.
  7. Bake at 350°F for 20–25 minutes until golden. Cover with foil if browning too fast.
  8. Mix powdered sugar with orange juice for glaze.
  9. Drizzle glaze over warm rolls and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Make sure the milk is warm, but not hot, to activate the yeast properly.
  • These can be made ahead and stored in an airtight container.
