Description
Delicious orange zest rolls that are soft and sweet, perfect for breakfast or dessert.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm milk (110°F)
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons orange zest
- ½ cup granulated sugar (for filling)
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened (for filling)
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 3 tablespoons fresh orange juice
Instructions
- Warm milk to 110°F and stir in yeast with a pinch of sugar. Let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- Mix in eggs, melted butter, sugar, and salt. Gradually add flour to form a soft dough.
- Knead dough by hand or mixer for 8 minutes until elastic. Place in a greased bowl and let rise until doubled, 1 to 1 hours.
- Combine softened butter, sugar, and orange zest to make filling.
- Roll out dough into a 12×18 inch rectangle. Spread filling evenly, then roll into a log and cut into 12 rolls.
- Arrange rolls in a greased baking dish. Cover and let rise again 30–45 minutes.
- Bake at 350°F for 20–25 minutes until golden. Cover with foil if browning too fast.
- Mix powdered sugar with orange juice for glaze.
- Drizzle glaze over warm rolls and serve immediately.
Notes
- Make sure the milk is warm, but not hot, to activate the yeast properly.
- These can be made ahead and stored in an airtight container.
