Description

Delicious birria-flavored burgers with melted cheese, perfect for grilling.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb 80% lean ground beef
  • 2 tbsp birria seasoning
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 oz Oaxaca or Monterey Jack cheese, sliced
  • 4 sturdy burger buns
  • ¼ cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 2 lime wedges

Instructions

  1. Gather all ingredients and prepare your workspace; dice the onions and mince the garlic.
  2. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, birria seasoning, diced onions, minced garlic, salt, and pepper; mix thoroughly using your hands.
  3. Shape the mixture into four patties slightly larger than the buns.
  4. Preheat your smoker to 225°F (107°C); if unavailable, use indirect heat on a grill.
  5. Place patties in the smoker and cook for about one hour until they reach an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C).
  6. During the last five minutes of smoking, add cheese slices to melt and toast burger buns on the grill until golden brown.
  7. Assemble with toppings and serve hot.

Notes

  • Adjust seasoning according to taste.
  • For a smoky flavor, use hickory or mesquite wood chips in the smoker.
