Description

Delicious cheddar garlic bread rolls that are soft, cheesy, and perfect for any meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour, divided, plus more if needed
  • 2 envelopes rapid-rise yeast (about 4 ½ teaspoons)
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 ½ cups whole milk, warmed (110°F to 115°F)
  • 1 large egg, room temperature, beaten
  • 1 tablespoon garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh chives, minced
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 large egg, room temperature, beaten
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 recipe Cowboy Butter, melted

Instructions

  1. To the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the dough hook, add 3 cups of the flour, yeast, sugar, and salt. Mix on low to combine.
  2. Add warm milk and egg to the flour mixture. Knead for 2 minutes at medium speed, stopping to scrape the sides of the bowl as needed.
  3. Add another ½ cup of flour and knead on medium speed for another 2 minutes.
  4. Add the remaining ½ cup flour, garlic, chives, and shredded cheddar cheese. Knead on medium speed until the dough forms a soft, slightly tacky ball that pulls away from the sides of the bowl, about 3 to 5 minutes.
  5. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl. Cover and let rise until doubled in size.
  6. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake 18 to 22 minutes until golden brown.
  7. As soon as the rolls come out of the oven, generously brush the tops with melted Cowboy Butter.
  8. Let the rolls cool slightly, then serve warm.

Notes

  • The cheese adds moisture, so add flour 1 tablespoon at a time if the dough feels too wet, or warm water 1 teaspoon at a time if it feels too dry.
  • Avoid over-kneading, which can make the rolls tough.
