Description

These Copycat Cinnabon Cinnamon Rolls are soft, gooey, and topped with a creamy frosting that melts into every swirl.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 to 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 12 tablespoons milk

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes foamy. This step always feels like magic—watching the yeast wake up and begin its work.
  2. Add sugar, melted butter, eggs, and salt. Gradually mix in flour until a soft dough forms. Knead for about 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic. The dough should feel slightly tacky but not sticky. Place it in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size. This is when your kitchen begins to feel like a bakery.
  3. Mix brown sugar and cinnamon in a bowl. Roll the risen dough into a large rectangle, about 1/4-inch thick. Spread softened butter evenly across the surface, then generously sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture over it.
  4. Roll the dough tightly from the long side to form a log. Slice into 12 even rolls using a sharp knife or unflavored dental floss for clean cuts. Place the rolls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let them rise again for 30–45 minutes. They will puff up beautifully.
  5. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20–25 minutes until lightly golden on top. The centers should be soft but fully cooked.
  6. Beat together cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk until smooth and creamy. Spread generously over warm rolls so the frosting melts into every swirl. This final step is what makes these Copycat Cinnabon Cinnamon Rolls truly irresistible.

Notes

  • For best results, use fresh yeast and allow the dough to rise in a warm environment.
  • The rolls can be prepared the night before. After slicing, refrigerate overnight and let them rise in the morning before baking.
  • If you prefer a thicker frosting, add more powdered sugar to achieve your desired consistency.
