- 4 cups fresh cherries, pitted
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 cup whole milk
- ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8×8-inch baking dish.
- Rinse and pit the cherries, then toss them with half a cup of sugar in a mixing bowl until coated.
- In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, remaining sugar, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Gradually stir in milk and melted butter until just combined.
- Pour half of the batter into the greased dish. Spread the sugared cherries evenly over the batter, then pour the remaining batter on top.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes or until golden brown and bubbly around the edges.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving warm with ice cream or whipped cream.
